Backyard Saunas is based in Seaton, Devon, and serve customers within (roughly) an hour’s drive.
We design and build bespoke saunas ranging in size from cosy 2–3 person cabins to larger 8–10 person installations. They are built using stud wall construction with a range of choices for interior and exterior cladding and roofing. Every sauna is insulated to cut down heating time and reduce environmental impact.
A typical 3–4 person sauna build takes around 18 days of work, so depending on the size, it might be quicker. Working two days a week, that means you could be ready to fire up your sauna in just over two months. We don’t compete with imported, mass-produced kits – but you might be surprised how affordable a hand-built sauna can be. Depending on your choice of materials, a bespoke sauna can cost from around £6,000.
We’re passionate about using reclaimed doors and windows wherever possible — it’s more sustainable and can help keep costs down.
The 3–4 person garden sauna shown on this website measures approximately 1.8 m wide × 2.5 m long × 2 m high.

When planning your sauna, it’s worth thinking about how you’ll use it, how many people you’d ideally like to have space for, the size of your garden, your preferred heat source (electric or wood-fired), and the overall look you’d like. Practical details such as power access and insulation are part of the process too, and we’ll talk these through to make sure everything suits your space, lifestyle, and budget.
If you choose an electric heater, we can recommend local electricians who’ll manage the setup and cabling. You can find more detailed guidance here: Finnmark Sauna – Choosing the Best Electric Sauna Heater.
If you prefer a wood-fired sauna, think about whether you have space to store logs — we can include a built-in log store as part of the design. It’s also worth thinking about smoke – using clean-burning wood can reduce impact, but be mindful of neighbours to ensure everyone stays happy.
A bespoke sauna offers complete freedom of design, built to fit your space perfectly. Unlike prefab models with fixed dimensions and finishes, a custom sauna is shaped around you and your space.

Built on-site, it integrates naturally with its surroundings and has a solid, enduring feel that mass-produced kits rarely achieve. Choosing a bespoke build also means supporting a small, local family business.
